We have updated the project timeline for the repairs at the SE 29th and Choctaw Rd intersection. Please view the attached document for updates.
We have accelerated the project and now plan for the intersection at SE 29th and Choctaw Road to be closed in every direction starting on Saturday, August 18th. We anticipate reopening the intersection to north/south traffic on August 28th, weather permitting. School administration has been made aware of the change and will adjust bus routes accordingly. Please plan your route for next week to avoid this intersection, thank you.
We understand the frustration with the length of time required for this project, please understand that as we are removing all of the asphalt and reconstructing the intersection in cement, the process takes longer than if we just removed a layer and replaced it. By reconstructing the intersection out of cement, we will prevent the "rolling" issue that the asphalt had that created the ribbed surface. We appreciate your patience as we work hard to fix this intersection correctly so that it will last, and we thank you for your understanding as we adjust our timelines to allow for inclement weather delays.

The City appreciates travelers' patience as we move to improve and repair the intersection of SE 29th Street and Choctaw Road. Team Choctaw kindly asks everyone to obey the barriers and road signs placed to keep traffic out of the repair area. Ignoring the barriers, jumping curbs, etc, presents a danger to city workers, other citizens, and could damage the uncured concrete, potentially delaying the repair further. Again, we thank you for your patience. 8/1/18
We understand the frustration with the construction at the intersection of SE 29th Street and Choctaw Road. We ask that you please bear with us and be patient as we continue to work quickly to complete this project. We are working hard to ensure that the new intersection will be smoother and will not have the same issues as in the past. We expect this project to be completed in mid-September due to staffing limitations, equipment failure issues, and weather complications. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to improve your daily commute. 7/30/18
